Tuesday - I am the Captain Now

This morning we set off sailing towards Prickly Pear, a small archipelago off the coast of Anguilla. It was my turn to get some sailing experience, and I headed off at heading of 308 degrees to aim for the point where we wanted to anchor.

In just over 90 minutes we arrived, having some some nice sailing on pleasant waters, avoiding a few other cats that were around us. I learned about the "Rules of the waves" regarding who gets priority, out of those sailing, motoring, those windward and leewards, and those with mobility requirements!

We arrived at Prickly Pear, but the sea was too choppy to safely anchor, and as such we considered a few people getting onto the Dinghy for little trip around though the gap in the island, but felt this would also be a bit wet and choppy, so abandoned in search of calmer seas!

Undefeated, we instead arrived to Meads bay on the northern coast of Anguilla, where we had a dip on the sea, followed by a mediterranean salad lunch. Tim and Suzanne went ashore first for a little wander, while Pete and I sunned ourselves on the foredeck.

I decided I wanted a longer walk on the land, so Pete and I got off at Meads bay, and set off on the 3 mile walk from Meads bay back round to Road Bay where we would anchor again for the night.

On the way, we called in at Super Supermarket, a locals market crammed to the rafters with products. We fancied a drink to refresh us, and I found traditional Jamaican Ginger Beer, with a UK 85p label on it! We got some bread too for the last few days.

The walk back took us partially along the main road in Anguilla, where we were overcome by how friendly everyone was, rolling down windows to smile and wave at you as you're walking.

We then turned off onto a Tsunami evacuation route, taking us on the high ridge path around the North side of the island, all the way back to the Anguilla sign where I had a photo the other day - this time Pete's turn.

As we descended down back to Road bay, we decided our efforts had earned us a nice beverage, which we enjoyed with gusto on the beach. Soon joined by the others, their cocktail orders soon overwhelmed the slightly stressed waitress who let out an audible whelp of relief once she'd made the 4 individual cocktails, one at a time, in her blender!

Back on the boat for the evening, and it was time for our last cooked meal - spag bol, with ratatoille a la Tim et Suzanne, with most of the rest of the wine for good measure, and I finally made the pina coladas I'd been promising, even if just for an excuse to use the Marachino Cherries!

Off to bed before our last full day on the Caribbean Sea!
