Wednesday - I need to grow some sea legs!

We set off sailing after an extensive briefing by the Caribbean Sunsail people who made sure that we were clear where we were going, where we couldn't or anchor and where the best places to go. This required quite a few amendments to the original plan with the benefit of local experience. The sunsail people helped us out of the marina by jumping on, taking Colin through the first few turns, then all of a sudden he had jumped off onto a dinghy to help someone else in!

And then it was on our way. We set off motoring for a while before clearing the Headland and raising the sail where I got my first experience of proper sailing. Trying to raise the sail and not get it caught on the lazy Jacks!

It got choppier and choppier and we were soon cresting over tall waves that shook the boat up, down, left and right. My sea legs didn't quite find purchase for the rest of the morning. I had been fine, until I went below to get some sun cream, and then the world turned green! I ended up feeling quite queasy and then needing to lie down for a couple of hours. Fortunately, I suppose, it had been particularly choppy, and other, more sea-faring members of the group had also felt green behind the gills! A short while later, I felt much better. We had some sandwiches and some snacks for lunch. Then I had another little lie down while everybody chilled out on the boat. Then, in the afternoon we did a little bit of Turtle watching, and I had a nice relax on the sun deck while some people went off snorkeling.

Feeling a bit better in the evening, Pete and I took our turn to cook, making an Ottolenghi take on a North African shepherds pie but with Hassle back potatoes instead of mash. This was slightly complicated by the fact the gas oven wouldn't go much above 70 degrees so we had to adapt with the microwave and finish them on the grill!

We rounded the evening with a chat about the pros and cons of AI taking over the world over a glass of wine!
