A mountain adventure

A mountain adventure

We began with our staple breakfast, getting ready for a group adventure today! Down to the gondola ๐Ÿš  was more of an event, the morning rush requiring some argy-bargy akin to the London underground at rush hour to get on, but with winter clothing, skis and ski poles to add some danger!

We headed up the gondola and down a series of runs towards St Christoph, enjoying a bit of speed at the end of a blue run as you approach the village. Keeping together, we raced through St Christoph, before taking the cable-car back to the top of Galhzig, then traversing a number of runs back down the up and downs around that area, getting used to skiing with each other, Pete off ahead, followed at a more sensible pace by the rest of us!

Beautiful blue skies

After several runs that got the heart pumping (more stats once the Fitbit has charged tomorrow!), we arrived back at a juncture. At the top of the hill we decided that coffee was the next stop. Somewhere between my aggression for a downhill route, and Pete's directions, I ended up sailing straight past the tiny right hand turn off, and instead this took us on a derailed route back down a hill until we found a cable car that could take us back to Galhzig for a coffee.

In the bright sunshine, with fantastic views, we enjoyed a well-earned break, taking in all that Arleberg had to offer.

Views for days!

We had a short interval run where we retraced the enjoyable route 100 down again, a great long run barely interrupted, this time achieving a max speed (on my Fitbit) or 56.6km/h!

Next stop was lunch back at Galhzig, where everyone enjoyed a Goulash soup, and I enjoyed a great selection of salads that provided a nice bit of veg for a meal!

Ignore the Haribo, it was a healthy lunch!

In the afternoon, Pete and I split off from Colin and Tim, Pete keen to try some Red and Black runs, with me tentatively in toe. We managed a fair descent down into the abyss with me holding on, before my legs turned to jelly, and necessitated a more gentle blue run down to town!

Pete, Tim and Colin headed to the steam rooms, saunas and spa while I chilled out in the ranch!

The evening began with a drink (or three) back in MooserWirt, where we heard our favourite song "Mama Lauder", an alpine classic! Translated to English, the lyrics are:

"Tonight we're going back to the disco
Weekend as usual
If there's no money, off to the overdraft
But we donโ€™t care about that"

Overdrafts no problem, it was Beers for the boys, only slightly distracted by the bartenders aptly carrying 30 beers and 30 Jager shots on one tray through the throngs of party-goers!

Most. Beers. In. Austria!

Tomorrow we are off to a different area to see what else Arlberg has to offer!
